MIRI: Vista Perdana and Taman Bahagia residents will enjoy smoother traffic flow once the road linking the residential areas to Pujut and Miri By-pass road is completed by year end. Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the 4.5km road, which is located at the Permyjaya New Township, was 72.7 per cent completed and was ahead of schedule by 2.4 per cent.
“About 3.5km of the road already has stone base while another one kilometre will be stone based soon,” he told reporters covering his visit to the project site. Also present were Miri Mayor Lawrence Lai, Public Work Department (PWD) project manager Mahathir Jokeni and Shin Yang Construction representative Steven Yii. Lee said the bridge crossing the Miri River, which formed part of the project, was 70 per cent completed. Once completed, the bridge would connect Vista Perdana to Pujut Padang Kerbau and Miri By-Pass Road.
“PWD is now working with Sarawak Energy (SEB) for the installation of street lighting on the road. We want to ensure that street lightings are fully installed once the road project is completed, or else we have to wait again for the street lighting process and this may be time consuming.”
Overall, Lee said he was happy with the progress of the project and gave contractor Shin Yang a pat on the back. “The contractor has done a good job and the work is ahead of schedule. The initial project completion date is Dec 9 this year, but it looks like the project is going to be completed much earlier.”
