Introduction
JKR Central Mechanical Workshop or JKR CMW is located at Lot . 744, Jalan Semangat , Bintawa , 93450 Kuching, Sarawak .
In 1958, CMW was set-up in Batu Lintang and in 1972, it moved to Tanah Puteh . On January 16th, 1992, construction of the new CMW building in Bintawa had been completed. Since then CMW had been operating in Bintawa .
CMW was initially set-up to provide service to the state Government that includes:
- To repair, maintain and overhaul vehicles, mechanical plant and equipment operated by JKR and others operated by Ministries/Department.
- To maintain and operate JKR Transport pool
- To inspect, assess and make recommendations on mechanical plant and equipments for BOS.
- To inspect, assess and estimate cost of repairs to all Government vehicles involved in accidents.
- To receive, check, test, record and despatch new plant and equipment. (Referring to PWD Manual of Instructions, 3rd edition 1977)
It also acts like divisional workshops by attending to repairs and maintenance works to plant, vehicles and equipment requested by JKR and other government agencies.

Services Provided
|

Receipt and Despatch is responsible for receiving, inspecting, registering and dispatching of Government' new vehicle, plant and equipment. ALL Sarawak Government vehicles, equipments and plants records are stored in the Plant Transfer Vouchers (PTV) and Plant Record Card (PRC) which are stored in the section.
Services provided:

Receive allocated new vehicles, plant & equipment.

Inspection of new vehicles, plant & equipment to ensure accordance with specifications.

Allocating QSG registration numbers.

Registering with Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ).

Preparation of road tax disc and registration certificates during handover.
The Receipt & Despatch procedures are in accordance and certified with ISO 9001:2000. |

Government Transport Pool
|
Government Transport Pool provides government drivers and QSG vehicles for all types of official functions. However, confirmation of bookings is dependant on availability of vehicles and upon confirmation of Service Order/IDC.
Services Provided:
- Rental of QSG vehicles to Government departments
- Driver services for the departments.
The section is supported by our own Vehicle Maintenance section to ensure the vehicles provided are always in excellent conditions. The Transport Pool procedures are also in accordance and certified with ISO 9001:2000.

The section consists of well-trained, multi-disciplined and experienced mechanics. They are committed to provide quality car servicing to all Government departments.

Research & Development Unit (RDU)
|
RDU was set up in December 2003 to look into possible projects involving Renewable Energy, Energy Efficient Buiding , Industrial Automation & Mechanized Water Treatment Projects. Main objectives for RDU were to:
- To cater for rural electrification for Sarawak 's remote areas (off grid) to complement the Rural Electrification Scheme (RES).
- Joint collaboration with local institutions of higher learning to explore new areas with potential for development in sustainable resources.
- Establishing a framework on how renewable energy development can be realized and regulated with proper documentation for sustainability.
Main Function
- Becoming consultants to the Government and public.
- Produce knowledgeable elite team members an minimizing the dependence on foreign experts.
- To advise and provide technical input to the Government regarding RE deveopment .
- Sourcing for the latest relevant technology and applying them to achieve maximum productivity, efficiency and sustainability.

Mechanical Inspection Unit
|
The Inspection Unit consists of experienced technical staff with extensive mechanical expertise and knowledge. They are highly trained and qualified to conduct inspection, testing, evaluating mechanical conditions of vehicles, plant and equipments.
Services Provided:
- Produce Mechanical Inspection Report (MIR) of all vehicles, mechanical equipment and plant for Board of Survey purposes.
- Inspect, assess, test and to value vehicles for Government Staff's loan application.
- Inspect, assess and estimate costs of repair for Government vehicles, plants and equipments involved in accidents.

Quality Objectives
JKR CMW Quality Objectives (2007)
- Each new machine will be ready within (1) ONE MONTH from the date of receipt from supplier, barring incomplete supplies.
- Any available vehicle will be hired out upon CONFIRMATION with a service order/work order.
- To repair and maintained Government vehicles, machines and equipment and guarantee the road worthiness of any machine repaired in CMW for 6 MONTH or 10,000km/500m HOURS whichever comes first.
- Mechanical Inspection Report (MIR) will be ready for collection within (7) SEVEN DAYS from the date of inspection.
- All bills will be rendered within (1) ONE MONTH after completion of jobs
